20 Key Points On Delegation

If you are a working mom like me, you may find yourself overwhelmed, fatigued, stressed out because we try to do everything ourselves. We do everything at home. We do everything at work.

Ask yourself the following reasons:

1. Do you feel the need to do everything yourself?
2. Are there chores that I cam assign to my children instead of doing them myself?
3. Are there daily tasks that I can delegate to others at work? If you answer yes to any of the above questions, then you have a problem delegating.

Delegate10 Reasons Why We Do Not Delegate

1. We have the thought that when we delegate, we lose control, and things will not be completed perfectly the way we want it.

2. That it is easier to do it yourself.

3. Feel that you are indispensable, and you can do it better than anybody else.

4. You are shy about assigning tasks because you feel you are imposing.

5. You want to please everybody.

6. That it will be done faster if you do it yourself.

7. You do not trust others.

8. You want to get all the credit.

9. You are not flexible.

10. You want to work alone.

10 Points to Remember on Delegation

1. Acknowledge, accept, and then one step at a time, you need to relinquish control of the need to do everything. You start by letting go of the thought that everything depends on you. You are not dispensable and freely pass on the responsibility to others. When you do that, you will feel a heavy burden lifted from your shoulders.

2. At home, let your children handle some of the chores. This teaches them responsibility and allows them to feel like an integral part of the family. Let your spouse handle whatever he will and be pleased with the outcome of your teamwork.

3. At work, you delegate tasks efficiently by letting those best qualified for the job to lend a helping hand. This gives you more time to focus on the tasks that you must do yourself. As a result, you work as a team on the job, resulting in higher quality work. You do not have to do it all yourself.

4. You need to know and accept that someone will not do a task in the same way you would, but that does not mean that the results are substandard. You will find that if you back off and let them control their assigned task, they will produce good work.

5. Recognize that when you let go of the need to do everything yourself, you can have more time to do what you want to do. You can take the time to relax and take better care of yourself. You can rejuvenate your energy and focus on the things that are important to you.

6. Acknowledge that letting go of the need to do everything frees you of the stress that comes with trying to do everything yourself. You will happily let your spouse, children, and co-workers take on what they can, and know that all will be well.

7. Be a team player. Know that you are essential, but you are a part of a family. You are a part of a company. And when you work together, greater things are accomplished.

8. Be flexible and allow people to do their assigned tasks. Understand that people will do things differently. What is important is you are all working towards a common goal.

9. Trust other people. Trust and verify. Be self-confident and encourage people who are working on their tasks. Acknowledge and praise when a job is well done. Gently correct when needed.

10. Experience the joy of working with your family and the people you work with. Know that it is better to work with others. And life becomes easier, fulfilling, and loving.
