13 Secrets to Achieve Our Dreams

13 Secrets To Achieve Our Dreams

We all want to be in a better place than where we are at the moment. We all have needs, wants, and desires that give birth to dreams. As we dream of being in a better place, we think of how to get there, so we set goals, and these goals are what keep us getting up day in and day out. If not for the desire to be better, our life will not be worth living.

So we think of ways on what we can do to step closer to our dreams, achieve our goals for a better life. A better life is personal and specific to each individual, and it can be simple to complex. Whatever scope our dreams are, it is up to us.

Vic Johnson, in his book 13 Secrets to Worldclass Achievers, he gave us the following secrets. Let’s dive and learn.

13 Secrets to Achieve Our Dreams

1. Big Doers are Big Dreamers.

Dream big, have big goals, and focus on the goal. It is how we can keep our behaviors on the right track and use our brains to its fullest potential.

There is no power in small dreams. When our dreams are not big enough, it’s easy to give up when confronted with difficulties, and we do not persist when our dreams are small or ordinary.

Lou Holtz said, ” If you are so bored with life if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things, you don’t have enough goals.”

As Marcus Aurelius said, “only big dreams have the power to move men’s souls.”

In the book The Psychology of Winning by Denis Waitley, he says that there are three types of people: a)there are spectators, they watch life happen around them. They are bystanders. They avoid trying new things or are wary of change for fear of getting hurt, defeated, rejected, ridiculed.

They sit back and watch others achieve their dreams. They have no goals. As Brian Tracy said, “people who have no gaols are doomed forever to work for people who do.
b) The losers. They prefer to follow others and criticize others c) Then there are the winners. They set goals and achieve what they want from life.

John Goddard said: ” If you know what you want out of life, it’s amazing how opportunities will come to enable you to carry them out.”

2. Understanding the Beginning of All Achievement

Napoleon Hill wrote: “desire is the starting point of all achievement…the first step towards all riches.”

An all-consuming desire has the definiteness of purpose that no such word as impossible. That is the first step to make dreams come true.

3. What You See is What You Get

Envision your dreams.

We can already see what our dreams are going to be like even before the world see them.

We visualize our dreams way before they become a reality.

There’s the story of Jim Carrey; he was still a struggling comic when one night in 1987, he drove his old Toyota up to Mulholland Drive in the Hollywood Hills and overlooking the City of Angels and envisioning his future, he wrote himself a check for $10 million, dated it Thanksgiving 1995 and wrote the words for “acting services rendered.”

He stuck the check in his wallet and pulled it often during difficult times. But by the time 1995 came, his movies had grossed $550 million, and his asking price per movie was up to $20 million, which was way more than he envisioned.

Brian Tracy says that “All improvement in your life begins with an improvement in your mental pictures. Your mental pictures act as a guidance mechanism that causes you to act in ways that make your mental pictures come true in your life.”

When we visualize, create pictures in our minds of the goal you want to achieve, the life we want to live. We activate our mind’s creativity turning fantasy into reality. Our minds create ideas to help us make our dreams come true. So let us use the process of visualization. First, visualize the action and then take action.

Practice Positive Self-Talk

Turn inward for our own motivation, self-affirmation. Positive self-talk is a way to override our past negative thoughts and replacing them with positive self-talk.

4. Learning to Believe

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” a quote by Napoleon Hill

Our beliefs create our self-image, and it controls what we think is hard or easy. It sets the depth and the ceiling of things possible. As Brian Tracy said, “you are a living magnet. What you attract into your life is in harmony with your dominant thoughts.” We always act and perform according to what we believe of ourselves and our environment.

5. Stand on the Shoulders of Giants

Do not reinvent the wheel. Always copy from the best. Vic Johnson said, “If you want to spend more time, more money and endure moire frustration, then strike out on an unproven path to your goal. On the other hand, if you are looking to significantly improve your odds of success and get your goal on the straightest, shortest path, find someone you can model.”

6. Have a “Laser-Focus” Approach to Managing Your Time

Have we not said and heard this said so often: “I can’t focus” and “I don’t have the time.” We may not always have the time to do everything we want to do, but if we foci, we’ll have the time to do what needs to be done to reach our goals. So set your goals. Setting goals is deciding how much time, which abilities and talents we want to use.

James Allen said that all successful people hold fast to an idea, a project, a plan, and will not let it go; they cherish it, brood upon it, tend and develop it; and when assailed by difficulties, they refuse to be beguiled into surrender; indeed the intensity of the purpose increase with the growing magnitude of the obstacles encountered.”

7. Act Now, and Keep Acting

From the Bible in the book of James 2:26 : “Faith without works is dead.”

We do not need to with until all the information is before us before deciding something. What is important is we have enough information to make a decision. So just get started, other things will follow after.

8. Champions Manage Fear and Doubt

Mark Twain said, “True courage is not the absence of fear; it’s the mastery of fear.” The acronym F.E.A.R is “false evidence appearing real.”

Vic Johnson said, “Doubt is the first cousin of fear and precedes it. If we dwell on doubt and give in to it, it then grows into fear.” The ancient write James reminds us. “a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as the wave of the sea that is tossed and driven by the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you turn first this way, and then that.”

9. FIDO is More Than a Dog’s Name

Clebe McClary described the acronym that helped him get up out of the hospital bed and helped him create a remarkable life. The acronym F.I.D.O. stands for “Forget it – Drive On!”

Successful people do not quit. They know that failure is part of the learning process, and mistakes allow us to learn new information.

10. Do What Others Won’t Do Today So You Can Do What Others Can’t Do Tomorrow

The common denominator of success, the secret of success of every person who has ever been successful, lies in the fact that they formed the habit of doing things that failures don’t like to do.” – Albet Gray

11. Experience The Power of the Master Mind

Napoleon Hill defined the Master Mind as “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

12. It’s About Principles

Respect your principles and live by them.

13. Seek Out World-Class mentors and Coaches

Jack Canfield describes in his book The Success Principles the importance of having a coach or mentor. A coach will help you:

  • Clarify your vision and goals
  • Support you through your fears
  • Help you remain focused on your goals
  • Determine specific action steps to take to help you achieve your goals
  • Determine your values, vision, mission, purpose, and goals
  • Recognize opportunities
  • Achieve balance in your life while accomplishing your business and career goals.

In A Nutshell

Successful people have their secrets to their success. And for those who strive to achieve success, we try to learn and model them, taking in those that will fit our personality because what can work for others may not work for us. We search, we learn, we do. We keep on trying, unwavering, always striving, though slow, we are deliberate. Because in the end, we are the writers of this book called life. We are drivers of this car called life. We are the captain of this ship called life.

Also, I am a believer more in the process than the end goal. Let us enjoy the journey; enjoy the process of evolvement. Do not be obsessed with the end goal that we forget to appreciate the scenery that we pass through as we take the steps to our dreams.
