Plan to Have More Time
Gary Keller said this: “If everyone has the same number of hours in the day, why do some people seem to get so much more done than others? How do they do more, achieve more, earn more, have more? If time is the currency of achievement, then why are some able to cash in their allotment for more chips than others?
The answer is they make getting to the heart of things the heart of their approach. They go small. Going small is ignoring all the things you could do and doing what you should do. It’s recognizing that not all things matter equally and finding the things that matter most. It’s a better way to connect what you do with what you want. It’s the realization that extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus.”
And how do you narrow your focus? You plan so you can have more time. You manage your time.
Managing Time
Time Management is using time effectively by:
- Identifying your goals
- Prioritizing your goals
- Identifying the specific task for each goal
- Spending the right time needed to complete each task.
- Delegating mundane task
The Importance of Time Management
Time management is critical in all areas of our life. It keeps us organized, happy, and focused.
It enables us to do what makes us happy and experience this life with the people that matter most to us.
People have different ways of managing their time. Some use electronic planners, their computers, their phones. I use a daily planner because I prefer to write my goals down and have a to-do list. I have monthly, weekly and daily goals. From there, I identify the specific tasks that I need to do for the day. It keeps me accountable because I just like checking things off my list throughout the day. At the end of the day, when I have accomplished what I have set to do, the feeling of accomplishment is priceless.
In the words of Gary Keller. “It’s realizing that extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus.” It is me doing the small tasks that lead to the accomplishment of my goals daily consistently and persistently.
